With Donald Trump being sworn in as president on Monday, Congressman Bill Huizenga will be listening closely to his inaugural address. Huizenga tells us he will be there, and he’s waiting to find out what Trump will say.
“It’s going to be interesting to sort of see what tone and tenor that President Trump takes as he’s coming back into the presidency,” Huizenga said. “I think he surprised a lot of people originally in 2016 with sort of the tone of his inaugural speech. I would suspect it’s going to be much the same, but he’s not going to be walking away from those campaign promises.”
Huizenga says that means shaking up the federal government to make it work better. He thinks Trump will be in a stronger position to do so this time around.
“There is a much more experienced Donald Trump, and I would only half-jokingly say I’m not sure who was more surprised in 2016 that Donald Trump had won, whether it was Donald Trump or whether it was Hillary Clinton.”
Huizenga says things are already off to a good start for Trump as many of Trump’s key appointments are set to be confirmed sooner this time around. He says the only confirmations that appear to face real complications are Tulsi Gabbard, for national security advisor, and Robert F. Kennedy, for Secretary of Health and Human Services.
Huizenga says his office was given hundreds of tickets to the inauguration to give out to West Michigan residents, and indeed, there will be hundreds from the region there for the historic day.
