1981 The 52 American hostages held in the U.S. embassy in Tehran, Iran as a result of the Iranian Hostage Crisis were released minutes after the inauguration of U.S. President Ronald Reagan. They were held for 444 days.

‘Two” from Music History:

1982 Heavy-metal musician Ozzy Osborne bi the head off of a bat during a concert in Des Moines, Iowa. The bat was thrown on stage by an audience member and Osbourne didn’t realize it was a real bat until after he bit the head off. In the process, the bat bit him and he had to be treated for rabies.

On this day in music, January 20, 2022, the Grammy Award-winning singer and actor, Meat Loaf, died at age 74. He was famous for his bombastic performances. His monstrously popular Bat Out Of Hell trilogy sold more than 100 million copies worldwide. As an actor, Meat Loaf rose to fame with a show-stopping performance in The Rocky Horror Picture Show and appeared in more than 50 films and TV shows during his life.
