16 young people from Southwest Michigan are back home after taking part in the Youth Solutions annual Leadership Day in Middleville this month.
Youth Solutions spokesperson Amina Chatti tells us the event in Barry County brought together 47 Jobs for Michigan’s Graduates students from all over the west side of the state. They took part in activities to build leadership skills.
“They do a variety of challenging activities,” Chatti said. “Some of those include zip lining, rock climbing, and there’s also a lot of team building exercises, ice breakers, just things that really encourage them to step outside of their comfort zones and apply the leadership skills and teamwork skills that they developed in their Jobs for Michigan’s Graduates program.”
Chatti says one activity had the students develop and reflect on their own leadership styles.
Youth Solutions holds three different Leadership Days each year. One was held October 9 for youths from northern Michigan, and another was October 17 for young people on the east side of the state. The west Michigan event was last Wednesday.
Chatti says taking part were students from Hartford High School, Covert High School, and the Bridge Academy of Southwest Michigan. She says the day was a good chance for these young people to meet their counterparts from other areas and come out of their shells.
