1896 Li Zhongzheng, a diplomat from China, was visiting the city and hosting American guests for dinner. Rather than risk preparing authentic Chinese food for them, Zhongzheng asked his chef to invent a dish that would appeal to both Chinese and American palates. Chop suey was born.
1967 The final episode of ‘The Fugitive’ starring David Janssen aired drawing a record 72% share of the prime-time TV audience.
1973 President Nixon was ordered by Judge John Sirica to turn over the so-called Watergate tapes of conversations secretly recorded in the Oval Office. Nixon refused the order.
