The Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy has announced more than $600,000 in grants to protect watersheds around the state, and among the recipients is the Diamond Lake Association in Cassopolis.
The association works to ensure water quality in Diamond Lake is preserved while educating the public on lake issues.
EGLE says the Watershed Council Support grants announced on Monday seek to preserve critical watersheds through cleanup programs, water testing, and planning.
The grants can also be used to support the administration of watershed organizations, such as the Diamond Lake Association. It’s receiving $40,000 as part of the grants announced Monday.
A total of 68 applications requesting more than $2.5 million were received in response to the EGLE request for proposals.
