1883 The Brooklyn Bridge over the East River was opened. It connected the cities of New York and Brooklyn for the first time in history. Its construction took 14 years and deaths of 27 workers.

 1935 The Cincinnati Reds beat the Philadelphia Phillies (2-1) at Crosley Field in what was major league baseball’s first night game.

Music History

 1968 The Rolling Stones released the single ‘Jumpin Jack Flash.’ Keith Richards stated that he and Jagger wrote the lyrics while staying at Richards’ country house, where they were awoken one morning by the sound of gardener Jack Dyer walking past the window. When Jagger asked what the noise was, Richards responded: “Oh, that’s Jack – that’s Jumpin’ Jack.”
