1956 The NBC Peacock airs its feathers, making its first on-air appearance. NBC used the peacock to promote its color programming and to encourage viewers to buy color TV sets. NBC’s owner, RCA, manufactured color television sets.
1992 Johnny Carson hosted his last The Tonight Show, having hosted it since 1962. His final guests were Robin Williams and Bette Midler.

1976 Wings started a five-week run at No.1 on the US singles chart with ‘Silly Love Songs’, McCartney’s fifth US No.1 since leaving The Beatles. Paul had often been teased by music critics as well as former Beatle and friend, John Lennon, for writing lightweight songs, so he wrote this number in response.
