Kevin Korchinski has rejoined the Chicago Blackhawks following the death of his father, Larry. The 19-year-old Korchinski was on the ice for Chicago’s morning skate ahead of its 3-2 victory against the Colorado Avalanche. Coach Luke Richardson says the rookie defenseman is going to need some time before he is ready for games again. Korchinski has two goals and five assists in 25 games in his first NHL season. The No. 7 overall pick in the 2022 draft hasn’t played since he skated for more than 18 minutes during a 1-0 victory over Anaheim on Dec. 7.

The Chicago Bulls expect veteran forward Torrey Craig to miss at least the next two months because of a right foot injury. The team says Craig will be immobilized for about four weeks and need an additional four to six weeks of rehab due to an acute sprain of his plantar fascia. He was injured in a loss at Miami on Saturday night. Craig is averaging 6.1 points and 4.8 rebounds in his first season with the Bulls. He has averaged 6 points and 4 rebounds over seven seasons with Denver, Phoenix, Indiana, Milwaukee and Chicago. The Bulls are 11-17 heading into Wednesday’s game against LeBron James and the Los Angeles Lakers. Chicago has won six of nine after beating Philadelphia on Monday.
NBA – Losing streaks are uncomfortable for players, but part of their indoctrination
Pick an NBA player’s name, any name, and they’re not hard-wired for skids. Players like top draft pick Victor Wembanyama typically have been on winning teams before coming to the NBA, not ones that stack up defeats at historic rates. For Wembanyama, along with youngsters like Cade Cunningham and Ausar Thompson in Detroit and Bilal Coulibaly of Washington, losing has become part of their NBA education. Misery does love company, and the Pistons, losers of 24 straight games, have some in the Spurs and Wizards. Despite the presence of Wembanyama, the Spurs have dropped 19 of 20 games, while the Wizards have lost 16 of 18.

CJ Carr will be among hundreds of prospects to sign a national letter of intent with college football programs on Wednesday, sealing his commitment to join Notre Dame. No one on Signing Day has a story quite the same. The former Saline High School star quarterback has two College Football Hall of Fame grandfathers with ties to the Wolverines. Lloyd Carr led Michigan to the 1997 national title and Tom Curtis made a school-record 25 interceptions. CJ Carr’s brother lost a battle with brain cancer at 5, and inspired a foundation that has funded $27 million in research.
NCAAFB – Penn State hires ex-Indiana coach Tom Allen as defensive coordinator
Penn State has hired former Indiana coach Tom Allen as defensive coordinator. Nittany Lions coach James Franklin announced the hiring on Tuesday to replace Manny Diaz, who left to take over the Duke program. Allen was fired last month by Indiana after seven years as head coach. The 53-year-old Indiana native went 33-49 with the Hoosiers, including 3-9 this season. He led Indiana to bowl games in 2016, ’19 and ’20. Allen was defensive coordinator at South Florida and Indiana before being promoted to head coach of the Hoosiers in 2017.

Mike Norvell of Florida State was second in voting and Missouri’s Eli Drinkwitz was third.
NFL – Rodgers’ will return next season, with Jets out of playoff hunt and QB not 100%
Aaron Rodgers’ quest to make an improbable return this season for the New York Jets appears over. The 40-year-old quarterback said during his weekly appearance on “The Pat McAfee Show” on Tuesday he’s not yet 100% healthy in his recovery from a torn left Achilles tendon and is still a few weeks away. Rodgers said if the Jets had won last Sunday at Miami and remained in the postseason hunt, he “would have pushed it as far as I could this week” even at less than full health to play against Washington on Sunday. But the Jets were routed 30-0 and eliminated from playoff contention for the 13th straight year.
