Detroit Metro Airport is ready to welcome millions of travelers through Christmas and New Year’s.

You might want to head to the airport early, as airports say they expect a 10% increase in travelers from last year. It’s also important to check your bags for prohibited items.

Randy Wimbley with the Wayne County Airport Authority has a reminder for all travelers this holiday season.

“If you’re going to be travelling with gifts, do not wrap them before travelling because it’s possible that those packages may have to be opened when going through the TSA checkpoint,” Wimbley said.

Special musical performances are planned at various terminals at the Detroit Airport. Chicago O’Hare International Airport has been all decked out in Christmas decorations.
