Name, image, and likeness rules could soon be expanded to high school athletes in Michigan.
A bill that would let high school athletes earn money in some circumstances was passed Wednesday by the state House Higher Education Committee and will now go to the House floor. State Representative Carol Glanville is the chair of the committee.
“As mentioned last week, Representative Wilson has been in close communication with the Michigan High School Athletics Association, and in light of that partnership and the feedback during testimony, we did make a few additional changes,” Glanville said.
Glanville says parents would have to be involved in any endorsement contracts signed by a minor.
The contracts cannot involve alcohol, tobacco, adult entertainment, gambling, firearms, and dietary supplements.
