There’s a new director of the Van Buren Conservation District.

The organization’s board of directors has named Emilly Hickmott to the position of executive director, effective October 1.

Hickmott started with the district in 208 as the recycling coordinator and began serving as the deputy administrator in the spring of 2021.

In her time with the district, she’s worked to expand recycling education and access, support the agricultural community, and address landowner concerns.

In her new role, she’ll oversee the staff and lead efforts to meet conservation challenges.

The board says Hickmott “embodies the mission of the conservation district.” She’s the recipient of the West Michigan Sustainable Business Forum’s 2023 Future Sustainable Business Hall of Fame award.

The Van Buren Conservation District is preparing to celebrate its 80th anniversary next year.
