Mini horse shot, killed in Van Buren County; police seek public help

Police in Van Buren County are seeking public assistance after the shooting death of a miniature horse near Decatur.

According to a police report, deputies were called to the 80000 block of 55th Street in Hamilton Township Thursday morning after a homeowner reported finding their miniature horse dead in its pen with a gunshot wound to the neck. Police are investigating the death as suspicious.

The victim reported that at about 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, they heard two gunshots in the area outside their residence. The next morning, they found their horse, named Moose, dead.

Police believe someone shot the horse from the roadway and left the scene.
