Kemia Hassel of Benton Harbor will remain in a Michigan prison for her role in the death of her husband in 2018 on New Year’s Eve. She appealed her conviction, saying she had ineffective counsel. The state appeals court disagreed with her in denying the appeal. Hassel was convicted of helping her lover, Jeremy Cuellar, kill Tyrone Hassel in Benton Harbor. The three were stationed together at a US Army base in Germany and he was killed when they were home on leave.
