With April designated as Distracted Driving Awareness Month, police are cracking down on drivers who are paying attention to anything else but the road while behind the wheel. The biggest problem, according to Michigan Auto Law President Steve Gursten, are drivers who continue to use their phones, while driving.
“In Michigan, all drivers are prohibited from texting while they’re driving and using a handheld phone,” Gursten said. “Most drivers are not prohibited from using a cell phone, like dialing it or holding it, initiating a call, answering, talking, listening. But for teen drivers, they are prohibited.”
Other distractions for drivers involving their phones, according to Gursten, include downloading and watching movies on streaming services like Netflix and Amazon Prime. Some have also been caught watching porn while driving.
