Berrien County Health Officer Nicki Britten is stepping down. Berrien County Administrator Brian Dissette told the county personnel committee on Thursday Britten’s last day will be July 9.
“We wish Nicki the absolute best as she pursues new career options,” Dissette said. “We’re very sad to see her leave, but very happy for her and her family about the new challenges she’s taking on.”
Britten is moving on to be the new Spectrum Health Lakeland Director of Population Health. Dissette said the immediate move for the county will be to designate Berrien County Deputy Health Officer Courtney Davis as the interim health officer.
“Courtney’s done an excellent job of navigating the waters as we’ve moved through the COVID-19 pandemic.”
Dissette said the state will need to approve the appointment of Davis, which he doesn’t think will be a problem. The county will then begin a search for a new health officer, and Davis can apply. Britten has served as Berrien County Health Officer since 2017 and oversaw the county response to COVID-19. She’s been with the Berrien County Health Department for 12 years.
