1865 John Wilkes Booth, who shot and killed Abraham Lincoln was reportedly shot and killed in a barn in Virginia. When Booth refused to come out of the barn, soldiers set it on fire.
1962 Ranger IV, launched three days earlier, made impact on the Moon’s surface. It was intended to transmit pictures of the lunar surface back to Earth but an onboard computer resulted in Ranger crashing. It was the first U.S. object to reach another celestial body.
1986 The worst Nuclear accident in history at Chernobyl nuclear energy; it killed 30 people and spewed radioactive material over the Soviet Union and Europe. Today it is a tourist attraction.

1980 – Blondie was at No.1 on the UK singles chart with ‘Call Me’, the group’s fourth Number 1, featured in the Richard Gere movie ‘American Gigolo.’ The track was also a No.1 in the US where it became the band’s biggest selling single. Producer Giorgio Moroder originally asked Stevie Nicks from Fleetwood Mac to help compose and perform a song for the soundtrack, but she declined.
