Some relief is in store for mid Michigan counties hit by flooding in May as President Donald Trump has declared Midland, Gladwin, and Iosco counties a major disaster area and the federal government will provide more than $43 million in aid. Brad Kaye is the city manager of Midland. He spoke with Michigan News Network on Friday.
“It’s been something we’ve been waiting for, obviously,” Kaye said. “From the time of the dam failures and the resulting floods that came through our community, we’ve known that there’s going to be significant impact both financially as well as physically for people, and any help that we can get is certainly welcome.”
Kaye says he’s not sure yet how the 43 million will be distributed in an area that has $175 million in residential damage and $35 million in public damage. Federal help will be made available to individuals and businesses through FEMA, the SBA, and the USDA’s Office of Rural Development.
