1800 President John Adams arrived in Washington D.C. as the new capital city was being built.
- The New York Knickerbockers were the first baseball team to wear uniforms.
1965 Edward White was the first to take a spacewalk outside of the Gemini 4 spacecraft. His walk lasted for 23 minutes. White died in the 1967 Apollo 1 disaster, making him and the crew the first American astronauts to die in a spacecraft.
1992 years ago today, with his presidential campaign badly in need of a boost, Arkansas Governor Bill Clinton put on sunglasses and played “Heartbreak Hotel” on his saxophone on Arsenio Hall’s TV talk show.
