A farmer from Berrien County has been honored with the Michigan Farm Bureau’s 2025 Young Farmer Excellence in Agriculture Award.

Tera Baker farms in Three Oaks with her husband, Shawn. She was selected by the Michigan Farm Bureau for the award for her agriculture experience, leadership ability, and participation in the Farm Bureau.

Baker tells us she’s dedicated her life to agriculture.

I’ve been involved in agriculture and farming my whole life,” Baker said. “I went to Michigan State University, majoring in agricultural business, and from there I’ve worked in industry jobs. Also, my husband and I started building our own farming.”

With her husband and parents, Baker owns a cash cropping farm and precision agriculture dealership. She’s also a marketing manager with Nedap Livestock Management, a provider of dairy-farm technology. She tells us she loves ag because farmers feed the world.

I’m part of a farming family, and there’s no better people in the world that I found than those involved in agriculture. There’s a grit to the people, a respect for the land and the animals and the resources around us, and it’s just a really cool place to be.”

The Farm Bureau’s Young Farmer Excellence in Agriculture Award goes to a grower between the age of 18 and 35. Baker says receiving it is like the pinnacle point of her career, and it’s nice to be honored for all her work and volunteerism. Now that she’s been given the honor, she’ll go on to compete for the national title in California in January.

Baker will officially pick up her Michigan award at the Michigan Farm Bureau meeting in December.
