President Trump took a meeting with Governor Gretchen Whitmer at the White House this week, hours after the governor delivered a speech saying more ships, chips, and planes need to be made in America.

Whitmer spoke with President Trump about keeping Macomb County’s Selfridge Air National Guard Base active, as well as cracking down on invasive carp in the Great Lakes.

I assume the lakes are all interconnected, right? So at some point, they’re going to be in the other lakes,” Trump said. “And so we’re going to work hard on that. I spoke with the Army Corps of Engineers, and they have a method. It’s a pretty gruesome method, but it’s a method, and I think they know what to do. So we’re going to work on that very hard. And thank you, governor, very much.”

The most recent data indicates invasive carp are just ten miles from the three electric barriers installed in the Chicago Area Waterway System to prevent them from getting into the lakes.
