1983 Magician David Copperfield made the Statue of Liberty disappear on his TV special The Magic of David Copperfield. Copperfield said he wanted to perform this illusion because his mother was an immigrant:
1989 Jim Abbott, born with only one hand, made his Major League Baseball debut, for the California Angels. In 1993, he would pitch a no-hitter for the New York Yankees against Cleveland.
