1929 American Nobel Peace Prize-winning civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr. was born in Atlanta. He was born Michael King, Jr., but in the 1930s, his father, Michael King, Sr., changed their names to Martin Luther King, Sr. and Jr. – One of Dr. King’s notable quotes: Darkness cannot drive out darkness: only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate: only love can do that.
A couple of TV shows debuted on January 15th:
1974 The TV series Happy Days on ABC. It was a spinoff of a Love, American Style segment called Love and the Happy Days, originally titled Love and the Television Set. The cast included Ron Howard, Marion Ross and Anson Williams.
1981 The critically acclaimed TV series Hill Street Blues debuted on NBC. Its debut season won eight Emmy Awards, a record for a debut season at that time.
