1610 Astronomer Galileo Galilei observed three points of light near the planet Jupiter. Subsequent observations over the next several months led him to the realization that they were moons of Jupiter. His findings were met with much skepticism as the concept of heavenly bodies orbiting anything other than the Earth violated astronomical thinking at the time. His discoveries helped support his belief that the Earth revolved around the Sun, leading to his prosecution by the Catholic Church.
1927 The famed basketball team the Harlem Globetrotters played their first road game. The original players were from actually from the Chicago area, the team’s name was chosen as Harlem was considered the center of African American culture at the time.
1929 The comic strip Tarzan premiered.

1980. Pink Floyd released ‘Another Brick in The Wall’ (Part 2) in the US. The single was their first and only #1 hit single which also topped charts in Australia, Germany and Italy.
