Police are warning everyone about a scam that involves someone pretending to be the police.
The scam has been reported in several counties. Genesee County Sheriff Chris Swanson says several people have gotten calls from someone pretending to be a Lieutenant Holland from the sheriffs office.
“Prominent leaders in this county call me because they were going to get scammed and it was so believable that they had to verify,” Swanson said. “These are individuals that run businesses, that have companies under their control, and they were almost scammed because of a fake call that is from the sheriff’s office or another police agency saying that there’s a warrant for their arrest because they didn’t show up for jury duty.”
Police will never call you and ask for money. If you receive a call like this, contact your local police department immediately.
