1907 The First U.S. Christmas Seals went on sale. The proceeds went to the fight against tuberculosis.
1965 “A Charlie Brown Christmas”, the first in a series of Peanuts tv specials debuted. The show featured characters created by Charles Schulz, including Charlie Brown, Linus, Lucy, and of course Charlie Brown’s dog Snoopy. Nearly half of the American households that had a tv watched.
1979 A commission of eminent scientists declared that Smallpox had been eradicated. The World Health Assembly would certify its eradication the following May. It was the first time a disease was declared eradicated.

1978 The Blues Brothers released their first single, a cover of ‘Soul Man.’ The original was by Sam & Dave, who the Blues Brothers (John Belushi and Dan Akyroyd imitated to create the act.
