Michigan State Police will be lending a helping hand next week during the Republican National Convention.

In response to an emergency management assistance compact request from the city of Milwaukee, the MSP will deploy troopers to help. Lt. Kim Vetter, MSP Public Information Officer, says the MSP is pleased and happy to help where needed.

“The Michigan State Police is pleased to be able to assist Milwaukee Police Department and the state of Wisconsin as they host the Republican National Convention,” Vetter said. “This is a large draw on their personnel and so we’re happy to be able to assist them with keeping the attendees and citizens safe as the convention occurs in Milwaukee.”

About 35 personnel will assist the Milwaukee Police with crowd and security management.

The MSP contingent will leave Michigan for Milwaukee today, July 13, for a seven-day deployment. Cap. Gregory Morenko will lead the mobilization and help with management outside the convention center.

Since joining EMAC in 2002, Michigan has sent uniformed MSP personnel out-of-state several times.
