Whirlpool has announced it’s working with HelloFresh to expand its Feel Good Fridge program to increase access to healthy food in cities across the country.

Whirlpool Brand Manager Gerrod Moore tells us Feel Good Fridge was started in 2021 as a way for the company to give away refurbished refrigerators to food pantries. Since then, they’ve distributed 900 fridges.

The new partnership with HelloFresh will stock those fridges with the items they need.

HelloFresh is stepping in by providing the excess produce and proteins that may not have made it into a bank,” Moore said. “HelloFresh is a food delivery service, but they do have food that may be kind of close to the expiration date or may not make it to a consumer’s home because takes one to two weeks to travel.”

In addition to partnering with HelloFresh, Whirlpool plans to distribute at least 1,100 additional refrigerators to food pantries in 13 cities. The fridges will be transported by Total Quality Logistics, the third partner in this week’s announcement. Among the cities to be served are Chicago and Detroit.

In the three years since its launch, the Feel Good Fridge program has delivered more than 250,000 pounds of food.
