A 20-year-old Benton Harbor man is dead following a shooting and a fight on Sunday.

The Benton Harbor Department of Public Safety says officers were called out to the BP station at 202 North Fair Avenue shortly after 2 a.m. on a report of a large crowd.

While on the way, officers heard shots fired and arrived at the scene to find people fleeing in all directions. Police then found the body of Marcus James Johnson. Two others were injured and drove themselves to Corewell Health South Hospital to be treated.

The body of Johnson has been turned over to Western Michigan University for an autopsy, and his family has been notified.

The shooting remains under investigation, and assisting at the scene were the Michigan State Police Major Case Team, Michigan State Police K-9 units, and the Berrien County Sheriff’s Department.

Police have released a surveillance photo showing a suspect. Anyone with information on this person’s identity is asked to contact the Benton Harbor Department of Public Safety.
