Efforts are underway in Kalamazoo County to raise money for those affected by two tornadoes that slammed Portage and Pavilion Township last week, destroying 60 buildings and damaging many more.

Alyssa Stewart is the chief impact officer for the Kalamazoo Community Foundation and told us how someone can help.

People can donate and make a financial gift to the Community Urgent Relief Fund by visiting our website, which is KalFound.org,” Stewart said.”

Stewart says they are working with United Way of South Central Michigan and half a million dollars has been raised so far. However, their goal is to raise at least $1 million.

Stewart says there’s also been an outpouring of volunteerism and donation of materials.
