Berrien RESA Superintendent Eric Hoppstock has received a positive performance review from the board of education.

At a meeting this week, the board rated Hoppstock as highly effective, resulting in an extension of his contract by one year. Hoppstock will continue serving through June 30 of 2028.

Berrien RESA Board President Jon Martin says the board appreciates “the thankless role Mr. Hoppstock has superbly executed.” He says under Hoppstock, strategic initiatives, staff engagement, and organizational resources are being maximized, and there “is no doubt that every student in our community is better served because of his willingness to listen, challenge conventional thinking, and work to bring out the best in everyone he meets.”

Hoppstock has worked in education in Berrien County for 37 years, having started at RESA in 1987 as a school psychologist. He went on to become the supervisor of the Special Education Department and then the district’s Assistant Superintendent and Chief Academic Officer.
