1508 Italian Renaissance artist Michelangelo began his work on the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel at the Vatican. He completed the masterpiece 5 years later.

1869, America’s First Transcontinental Railroad was finished.  The final spike, a Golden Spike, was put in the ground at Promontory Summit, Utah.

1983 the last first-run episode of Laverne and Shirley aired.

 

Music History:

1963 The Rolling Stones recorded their first release, a Chuck Berry song called ‘Come On’, at Olympic Studios, London. It would be released in June by Decca Records.
