A new mural will soon be painted on the side of a non-profit retail establishment in South Haven.
Habitat for Humanity ReStore manager Ryan Jenkins tells us after opening about two years ago on 73rd Street, the ReStore thought it was time to stand out a little more.
“The main thing we wanted to do is just to make sure that people know we’re here and what we’re about,” Jenkins said. “So that’s why we chose the artwork that we did. We wanted to share our mission and just people who are not familiar with us and didn’t know that we were here, we wanted them to be able to drive by and just see at a glance what the store is about and give them an idea of why they might want to donate, shop, or volunteer.”
Jenkins says the store is working with South Haven area artist Jessica Johnson on the project. So, what will the mural depict?
“We have a delivery truck that we go out with, and it’s going to kind of be matching that. The idea is it’s a scene that kind of shows all the different ways that people can be involved with Habitat and the ways that we reach out to help the community. So, there’s going to be a scene of us out on the truck.”
The Habitat ReStore sells new and gently used home furnishings to support the overall goal of home building.
Jenkins just got done priming the wall that faces 73rd Street, and work on the mural should start in the next week or two. It’s expected to take Johnson a few weeks to finish the 80 foot long, ten foot high mural.
