The City of St. Joseph’s Harbormaster tells us the Bicentennial Bridge over the St. Joseph River is secured to masted navigation. That essentially means if you need the bridge to open for your sailboat or taller vessel to go through, you’re going to have to wait.
Moran says during a routine inspection, MDOT found a lift cylinder issue that would not allow the bridge to raise properly for vessel traffic to pass.
Vessels which are able to safely transit under the bridge while it is in the lowered position may do so at any time, and the bridge remains fully usable to roadway traffic.
The Bicentennial Bridge over the St. Joseph River, located at mile 1.30, is secured to masted navigation at this time. This is the I-94 Business Loop spanning between St. Joseph and Benton Harbor, Michigan.
We are told that MDOT is currently mobilizing resources to replace the cylinder and an ETA on the repairs will be announced once a timeline is established.
