Michigan Senate Republicans are calling for education reforms, saying that under Democratic control, students are falling behind.
Michigan State Senator John Damoose pointed out Friday that Michigan is 43rd for high school graduation rates, 43rd for fourth grade reading proficiency, and has the lowest average SAT scores on record.
“Our education policy is headed in the wrong direction right now in the state, and the numbers bear it out,” Damoose said.
The GOP plan calls for the restoration of the the A-through-F grading scale, bonuses for highly effective teachers, scholarship opportunities to cover the cost of after school programs, and going back to the basics for reading methods.
Republicans are calling it the MI Brighter Future plan.
They plan to formally introduce it next week.
