The Berrien County Board of Commissioners has held its organizational meeting for the year.
The body gathered Thursday for the first time in 2024.
Mac Elliott will remain the chair. The board also reappointed the same committee chairs and members as last year. Commissioner Jim Curran will chair Administration, Commissioner Mamie Yarbrough will chair Finance, and Commissioner Bob Harrison will chair Personnel.
Commissioner Julie Wuerfel asked Elliott if night meetings will be on the meeting schedule, even if their dates aren’t yet known.
“Can we allocate them on here, maybe that we’re going to do the same as last year, the four night meetings, and attribute them later so that we’re not approving a calendar with no night meetings?”
The commission holds four or five meetings at night at different locations around the county each year so people who can’t normally attend have a chance to do so. Elliott said the board could state in its meeting schedule there will be four night meetings in 2024, but wait until later to identify their dates and locations.
Also Thursday, Commissioner Teri Freehling was named vice chair.
