September 5, 1774 – The first assembly of the Continental Congress.

1906 St. Louis University’s Bradbury Robinson threw footballs’ first ‘legal’ forward pass against Carroll College. It was incomplete.

 1975 Charles Manson follower Squeaky Fromme attempted to shoot President Gerald Ford. Fromme was about an arm’s length from Ford on the grounds of the California State Capitol building when she tried to shoot him with a pistol. The gun failed to fire, and no one was injured.

 

 Music History:

 1981 Stevie Nicks was at No.1 on the US album with ‘Bella Donna’, featuring the tracks ‘Stop Draggin’ My Heart Around’ (the Tom Petty duet), ‘Leather and Lace’ (with Don Henley), ‘Edge of Seventeen’ and ‘After the Glitter Fades.’
