The Silver Beach Carousel is bringing back its annual Founders celebration this weekend after a hiatus since 2019 due to the COVID pandemic. The weekend honors Logan Drake and Louis Wallace, who helped bring fun to generations of visitors to the Silver Beach Amusement Park. Silver Beach Carousel Society President Suz Schalon tells us Friday will be the first open Friday of 2023, adding an extra day to weekend plans.
“We will have an hourly drawing beginning at 1 p.m. through our closing hour of 8 p.m. and that will be for a souvenir sand castle and a free bag of popcorn,” Schalon said. “That’s something that all of our guests age five and above can enter to win for free. One drawing per person, must be present to win. It should be fun. We also have some great decorations up.”
Schalon says recorded barbershop quartet tunes will be heard throughout the weekend, and the carousel is fully decorated for summer with an Under the Sea theme. Original Kiddyland rides on display will include a boat, train, and plane, and two horses from the original Silver Beach Carousel are featured. The Silver Beach Carousel will announce additional open days in July on its website and phone message.
