The Best Friends 4-H Club in collaboration with Mutterly Love will be offering canine classes starting on March 6, 2023, around Junior Showmanship and Nose Work also known as Scent Work. Classes are open to youth ages 5 – 19 years as of January 1, 2023, as well as 4-H Leaders. Cost for each class is $50.00 for non-4-H members and free to 4-H’ers as well as 4-H Leaders. Class details include:
4-H Junior Showmanship Dog Classes will run on Mondays from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. starting on Monday, March 6, 2023, and ending on March 27, 2023. Classes are held at Mutterly Love, 200 Kerth Street, St. Joseph, MI. Junior Showmanship participants will learn about standards for breeds, proper show ring attire, equipment/tools, breed history, proper gait, table presentation, floor presentation and judging procedures.
4-H Nose Work Classes are scheduled to be held on Mondays from 8:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Mutterly Love, 200 Kerth Street, St. Joseph, MI, starting on Monday, March 6, 2023 and ending on March 27, 2023. Participants will learn how to teach a dog to seek, search and find an assigned scent (fragrance) that has been hidden. Also, participants will gain a deeper understanding on how to prepare for the new dog event of Scent work during exhibition.
Class participants are asked to bring with their dog (cleaned & groomed), leash that is at least 4 to 6 feet in length, collar/harness, poop bags, paper towel, dog treats, fanny pack or treat bag, as well as water or water bowl.
