Bonnie Lou (Hecker) Ramsey, 80, of South Bend, loving wife, mother, and grandmother, passed away at the Center for Hospice Care on Thursday, December 22, 2022.
Bonnie was born in Niles, Michigan on May 24, 1942, to the late Harold and Thelma (Wilson) Hecker.
On April 21, 1973, in Mishawaka, she married Kent D. Ramsey.
Bonnie is survived by Kent, her husband of 49 years, their daughter, Melissa of Wilmette, Illinois and grandchildren, Eva and Colin.
Bonnie was the light of her family. Her smile welcomed Melissa and the grandkids on every visit, and her voice was pure comfort and understanding on every phone call. She loved going shopping with her grandchildren and she could often be found laughing while playing cards and games with them. Bonnie enjoyed taking vacations, going on drives, and shopping for antiques with Kent. Everything she did for her family, she did with love. Bonnie’s love also extended to every dog she met, and most especially to the ones who were part of her family: Taffy, Ginger, Zilla, Floyd, and Cannoli.
Along with Kent, Bonnie was an active member and long-time volunteer at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in South Bend. Bonnie had a heart of gold. She loved children and dedicated her life to their education. She was a kindergarten, first and second grade teacher for decades in the South Bend Community School Corporation, notably at Eggleston, Perley, Lincoln, and Harrison Elementary schools.
A funeral service for Bonnie will be held on Tuesday, January 3, 2023 at 1:00pm in Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 1021 Manchester Drive, South Bend, IN 46615. The family will receive friends from 12 noon until the service time at 1:00pm. Burial will follow in Silverbrook Cemetery in Niles.
