1879, Frank Woolworth opened the First Five & Dime Store in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. He sold items for no more than 10 cents . . . and went broke. He then opened another store in a better location and went on to become one of America’s richest men.
1933 The notorious criminal John Dillinger committed his first bank robbery, robbing an Ohio bank of $10,000. He had been released from prison the previous month after serving nine and a half years for armed robbery.
1967 A patent was filed by Douglas Engelbart for the first computer mouse. It was awarded in 1970.
Music History
1965, The Byrds released their debut album, “Mr. Tambourine Man”. Their hit title track was actually a cover of a Bob Dylan song.
