General Motors says it’s found a fix for a battery problem that’s created a fire risk, leading to the recall of about 140,000 Chevrolet Bolt electric vehicles. GM spokesman Dan Flores says the battery supplier, LG, has resumed production at its two Michigan plants.
“It’s definitely positive news that our supplier has restarted their production,” says Flores. “Just as importantly, we’re going to begin repairing vehicles under the recall beginning in the middle of October.”
Flores says at first, the batteries will go to repair recalled vehicles. So GM’s Orion plant, which builds the Bolt, will remain closed until at least October 11th.
