ArtPrize returns to Grand Rapids this year and Meijer Gardens & Sculpture Park will showcase one of the entries,”Sword in the Sphinx” by Virginia Lee Montgomery. Assistant curator at Meijer Gardens, Jochen Wierich, says he’s excited for the return of ArtPrize, an international art competition.
“We weren’t even sure whether or not it would come back, and then when we found out that they’re having a show this year, we had to quickly find an artist and quickly find spaces because all sculpture galleries that typically have sculpture shows are closed for renovation,” says Wierich.
Wierich says the sculpture and some smaller ones will be on display in their new welcome center. ArtPrize runs from September 16th through October 3rd throughout Grand Rapids.
