The South Haven Speaker Series will host a free presentation this month focused on COVID-19 and the development of vaccines to prevent it. Speaker Series President Mark Odland tells WSJM News Dr. H. Clifford Lane is a deputy director of the National Institute of Allergies and Infectious Disease, and he’ll speak February 18.
“For over 25 years, he served with a group of scientists that worked with Dr. Anthony Fauci, and right now, of course, their primary focus is stamping out this COVID-19 disease that has hit us,” Odland said.
Odland says Dr. Lane traveled to China when COVID-19 was first ravaging that country.
“He learned so much about the virus at that time that, really, when he came home he was able to probably steer our own country and our own response in a way that is probably helping us today.”
Lane will provide his findings on the virus, where it came from, how it got started, and how it spread so quickly and broadly throughout the United States. He’ll also offer his thoughts on the vaccines. The presentation will be on February 18 at 2 p.m. with a rebroadcast at 7 p.m. and there will be an opportunity to ask questions.
